Encyclopedia Brown is back in action in this exciting mystery adventure! Idaville is buzzing with excitement as the annual county fair approaches, but a strange theft casts a shadow over the festivities.

The victim is Mrs. Wharton, a wealthy socialite who has had her prized diamond tiara stolen. The only clues are a pair of disgusting sneakers found near the scene of the crime.

Encyclopedia Brown, the 10-year-old boy detective, is on the case. With his trusty notebook and sharp intellect, Encyclopedia begins his investigation.

Encyclopedia interviews Mrs. Wharton and learns that the tiara was stolen from her dressing room at the fairgrounds. The room was locked at the time, and no one had a key except for Mrs. Wharton and her maid.

Encyclopedia examines the disgusting sneakers and notices that they are covered in mud and grass stains. He also finds a small piece of paper stuck to the sole of one of the sneakers.

The paper has a partial fingerprint on it. Encyclopedia compares the fingerprint to the fingerprints of everyone who had access to Mrs. Wharton's dressing room.

Encyclopedia discovers that the fingerprint matches that of Mrs. Wharton's maid, Agnes. When Encyclopedia confronts Agnes, she confesses to stealing the tiara.

Agnes explains that she was in love with a man who was in debt. She stole the tiara to sell it and pay off his debts.

Encyclopedia turns Agnes over to the police. Mrs. Wharton is overjoyed to have her tiara back and thanks Encyclopedia for his help.
