The Unvarnished West: Ranching As Found It. A Long Tail Title with Engaging Content
The American West is a land of myth and legend. It's a place where cowboys and Indians roam free, and where the land is as wild and untamed as the people who live there. But what was the West really like in the days before the movies and the television shows?
In his book "The Unvarnished West: Ranching As Found It," Owen Wister attempts to answer that question. Wister was a writer and journalist who spent several years living on a ranch in Wyoming in the late 1800s. His book is a firsthand account of what life was like for the cowboys and ranchers who settled the West.

A Hard Life
Wister's book paints a vivid picture of the hardships that cowboys and ranchers faced on a daily basis. The work was long and dangerous, and the weather was often unforgiving. The cowboys had to deal with stampedes, rattlesnakes, and hostile Indians. And the ranchers had to deal with the constant threat of losing their livestock to disease or theft.
But despite the hardships, Wister also found beauty and romance in the West. He writes about the wide open spaces, the clear night skies, and the friendships that were forged between cowboys and ranchers. He also writes about the code of honor that governed the West, and the sense of community that existed among the people who lived there.
A Changing World
Wister's book was published in 1902, but it still offers a valuable glimpse into the American West of the late 1800s. It's a book that can be enjoyed by anyone who is interested in history, the West, or simply a good story.
The West has changed a lot since Wister's time, but the spirit of the cowboy and the rancher still lives on. These are the people who built the West, and their legacy will continue to inspire us for generations to come.
